My sweet sister in law recently turned 50!  Her husband planned a small cookout for her at my mother in law's house for her closest friends and family and I was in charge of the decorations. Most of the premade decorations in our local stores were for small children or all black with "Over the Hill" on them.   While 50 is a big milestone birthday she certainly wasn't ready for a "tombstone and depends" birthday party.  I wanted something that fit with her girly, bubbly personality. I found some 50 & Fabulous party supplies online and decided that was perfect for her.  Instead of black and white or black and gold I would use black, pink and white as my main color scheme and went from there. I had to take a detour on my usual crafts this week to help my daughter with a project due in a few days.  (That she neglected to tell us about until the weekend before its due.) The assignment was to write a brief report about a person from history then present it to the class.  She did all the research and had her report ready to go but failed to mention the small detail about also being dressed up as that person when she presented her report. Her report was on Astronaut Neil Armstrong.  We made a spacesuit! Complete with a helmet she could hold like Neil while giving her report to the class. I made the suit while she worked on the paper mache helmet.   I started with a cheap disposable painter's overall. Like this one... I made the NASA Logo, American Flag and name out of vinyl. I came across some cute hair clips on Etsy and my daughter went crazy over them so we decided to give them a try.  Since she refuses to wear bows anymore.   We found that once you learn a few of the techniques you can make almost anything!  There are videos on youtube on how to make some of the designs. These are a few of the ones we made with the left over ribbon we had from the headbands.  Most of them turned out SUPER cute. We were even able to make some of her favorite characters. My latest crafting adventure is headbands.  My daughter finally has enough hair now that we can get creative with her hair styles.   There are tons of free video tutorials on youtube for making these.  I watched a couple but I chose to go with No Bow...No Go's ebook instructions so I didn't have to keep pausing a video to catch up.  😏 I love how simple the headbands are to make and how I can custom coordinate them to match any outfit.
